ni hao ma… (again)” this time from beijing, china!

having aready been to the southwestern part of china, we had an opportunity this time to visit the northeastern part… the capital of china:  beijing (a.k.a. “peking” or “the forbidden city“).

ni hao ma... welcome to "the great wall of china"!

to be honest, i really wasn’t looking forward to going. i was hoping we could rest/stay longer in hong kong before our next scheduled trip to japan.
but having gone, all i can say is: (besides being mind-numbingly COLD…) beijing ROCKED!
of course, vivien was responsible for this (as she has/is/will continue to be the reason all things in my life ROCK :))!  it was awesome seeing her switch gears from speaking cantonese to mandarin. she navigated us through the streets as if we were locals! what an incredible skill it is to be multi-lingual!
**SIDE NOTE: upon our return, i’m gonna get miss rosetta stone and learn some mandarin (maybe i’ll also have to look into mandy and pandy)! as is evident, china will continue to develop its global presence and will be a (if not “the“) dominant presence/force in the next 10-25 years. and Lord willing, we hope to return (and hopefully i’ll be fluent in mandarin!).**

upon arrival, i really wasn’t sure what to expect. i remember being somewhat fearful of beijing/china. (More …)

I for one find it hard to believe Viv would wear a “moth face” backpack…

I’m surprised the locals understood Vivien’s Mandarin. ha ha….. It’s very cold in Seattle too, temperature’s been in the 20-30’s….

@annie: ha ha, me too. Two strangers told me that my Mandarin is good. I was like…hmmm….are you kidding…(didn’t say that). I guess you do what you have to, since I’m the only one who can speak some Chinese. 😛 I have to ask for direction so many times… Fun adventure…

welcome home… but please keep praying for n.korea

the look on both euna lee and laura ling says it all:

though i’m grateful that former president bill clinton was able to secure their freedom, my heart aches to think of the countless others who have no champion/advocate to rescue them. where hopes of freedom is non-existent… hope for escape from the abuse and deplorable conditions in the gulag-style prisons is more realized, and often welcomed in death.
and even those who might escape aren’t guaranteed a better life. this was depicted in the movie “crossings“. there are reports of escapees who endure so much more hell once they flee north korea (click here to read more).
though injustice is rampant across the world, this affects me on a deeper level because THEY are my brothers and sisters… my people! my heart aches for those suffering, but i think i ache more because of the lack of conviction and action on my end. my gift/donation to LiNK seems so insignificant.

Lord, it’ll start with prayer.  then let me get off my knees and be moved to action. compelled to shine Your justice…

cnn.com: bodies retrieved as quake toll tops 12,000…

    * for the full story, click here.

    Lord,
we pray and submit this situation in china to You.
    for those who have passed,
for those who have lost loved ones,
for those who are injured and hurting,

be with them in their grieving/mourning.
remain their sustenance and their hope.

may we be called to continual prayer and moved to action.
forgive me for being so selfish, Father. 😦
help my heart to beat in tune to Yours.
to be an extension of You to those in need.

    amen…
