    worship setlist @ Q – 2010.04.18 [the return of “song”]…

well, after finally getting reimbursed by P.E. (for that pizza i paid for during our first church gathering), i stepped down as quest’s worship director/leader (since our church’s inception) back in january of 2009.
since then, it has been a strange and necessary path i’ve been on this last year and 3 mos.
though i was sad to walk away from leading worship (leading for the last 16+ years of my life), the flesh part of my nature looked forward to that first sunday AFTER… when i would get to sleep in and not have to awake at the crack of dawn and get to the church and prepare for worship and all the other logistics involved. bottom line: my soul and all was just = tired.
i was also wanting to be intentional and focus as much of me to my marriage and revel in being a newlywed!
the first few weeks were AWESOME! coming later on sundays w/ my wife and knowing the weight, the responsibilities were no longer mine (sorry j.Hong 🙂)! i was actually looking forward to anonymity… to be able to be a guest who slips in and out w/o being noticed by others. i felt i had poured out so much of myself for so long, that i was trying to pull up my guard and desperately retain the little i felt i had left… to see if i could re-establish myself apart from my former position and what i was (a fellow ‘g.song‘ wrote a great post similar to this!).
had pretty wild swings with the highest of highs and some funky bizaare lows. i tried de-constructing what i thought i knew and examine/question everything else i didn’t… and all of this brought me to the conclusion: i know less now than i ever thought before!
yet, one thing remained constant and i found it being the reassurance i always returned to: God.
i found myself wrestling and wrestling and hoping to unearth something profound that would unlock everything i had built-up in my mind and answer all of my fears, doubts and questions… but, it hasn’t happened. i’ve come to better accept (in my current season in life), that that’s not how God is choosing to work. and though difficult at times, i am finding myself wanting to know more and draw closer to and simply worship Him alone regardless of all other things. i have nothing to offer back… just me.
my soon-to-be-born daughter, i hope you can respect your daddy and know that i live to serve God and the family He has blessed me with!

    anyway,  i’ve rambled on long enough…  😉
i got a chance to work with some of the most gifted and kick-A people (shredder, MJ, rhythm engineer, nit.soh, jin-keys, yo-yo Lav, + won’t u be my “nabor”?), on my return sunday to Q! it wouldn’t have been nearly a blessing to me and a WHOLE LOTTA JOY if it weren’t for their mad skillz!
though a rough recording taken straight out from the board, here’s a link to the audio:

    worship @ Q – 2010.04.18 recording

    His blessings + peace…

    welcome/opening set:
    – God with us [key of D] by barry graul, bart millard, jim bryson, mike scheuchzer, nathan cochran, & robby shaffer

    – nothing but the blood (hymn) [key of E] by robert lowry

    offertory/closing song:
    – hosanna (praise is rising) [key of G] by brenton brown & paul baloche

a video for the communion song… an unbelievable song by jars of clay  that haunts me to the core with its honest lyrics + cut you to the core rawness:

    worship setlist @ women’s N.O.W. – 2010.04.17…

viv was invited by the worship leading phenom, gail song bantum (who has a cool maiden last name, might i add… and totally appropriate/awesome when you’re a worship leader!) to help with quest‘s 2nd women’s n.o.w. (n.ight o.f w.orship).

i was really excited for viv to get involved with this event b/c it had been several years since she had last led worship/been involved w/ the worship ministry at her old church, evangelical chinese church, a.k.a. e.c.c. (though we had just guest-led the previous weekend @ s.c.c.), and more importantly, because i know how gifted and passionate she is about singing and praising God with the talent He has blessed her with!
they had a rock-solid group of ladies helping w/ the worship band and pastor deanza dropping some serious logic centering on the theme of “identity.” and at the last minute brian bantum + i stepped in to help out on bass + electric guitar, respectively (though they brilliantly rocked the joint they really didn’t need us!). thanks for helping me not be the only guy in the house that night, brian! 😉

    opening set:

    • hungry (falling on my knees) [key of C] by kathryn scott
    • all who are thirsty [key of C] by brenton brown & glenn robertson
    • how He loves me (chorus only) [key of C] by john mark mcmillan
    • You are good [key of G] by kari jobe
    • You are for me [key of G] by kari jobe

    closing set:

    • i belong [key of E] by kathryn scott

    worship setlist @ SCC – 2010.04.11 [guest leading w/ vivien]…

vivien + i were invited by seattle community church (http://seattlechurch.org <- how did they score THAT url?!?!) to guest lead on the 11th.

a beautiful sunday morning in laurelhurst!

after getting my feet wet by leading the Q kids in worship on easter, it was now time to face the adults!
it was cool to worship alongside this community and even cooler to see some of their congregation members that i had first met almost 13+ years ago when my brother was the youth/worship pastor at washington korean presbyterian church (wkpc). matter of fact, my brother had just guest led there before me so they were given a double-dose of the “song” brothers!
so amazing to see how much people, their lives have changed but strangely seemed to have stayed the same.
got a chance to worship alongside some blessed/talented worshippers/musicians.

a BIG shout out to jin for his amazing shredding skillz… still got it after all these years and to pastor leah for coming alongside and supporting us. it felt SO good and SO right to have church and seeing her presence there! we miss you sorely! 😦

and folks, if you’re ever in the u-dist area and want to check out an awesome person of God and a church doing some kick A stuff, swing by sinners + saints church! hopefully they’ll invite me to guest lead one of these sundays now that they’re almost legal!

…am nervous about this coming sunday and leading at Q for the first time since 01/04/2009. have some preparation and prayer to do!

    opening set:

    • hosanna (praise is rising) [key of G] by brenton brown & paul baloche
    • revelation song [key of D -> E] by jennie lee riddle
    • holy, holy, holy [key of C] by reginald heber &  john b. dykes
    • You are holy [key of C] by george song

    worship setlist @ Q KIDS – 2010.04.04 [Easter]…

thanks to katey, i ended my year plus hiatus from leading worship on of all sundays… easter sunday!
i was invited to lead worship for the kids ministry @ Q!
i was completely nervous and fearful, had butterflies in my stomach from anxiety! and let’s not forget that i hadn’t touched my guitar in so long that my calloused fingers have turned soft and supple! but after standing in front of them, i realized: no greater group to lead than children… they were complete putty in my hand and adored everything i did!  😉
after leading sunday in and sunday out for almost a decade and a half (yikes!) it was a mix mash of emotions and thoughts not having to lead worship. for starts, it’s SUPER nice to sleep in on Sunday or get away for the weekend w/ my lovely wife!
but at the same time there’s the tugging on my heart from the Holy Spirit. i know that my heart and my life belongs to the Lord and that i desire to do more than just come and go every Sunday… a yearning to serve Him and the church.
the time away from ministry has caused me to come back with more questions and uncertainty than i had when i left, but i’m looking forward to walking forward in faith and seeking answers and deepening a faith that can be firmly rooted in Christ.

thanks to the kids @ Q who taught me how to enjoy worship again… can’t wait to worship w/ them again!  😀

    worship set:

    • God’s love [key of G] by ???
    • Lord, i lift Your name on high [key of G] by rick founds
    • i could sing of Your love forever [key of E] by martin smith
    • Rebecca 10:57 pm on April 6, 2010 Permalink | Reply

I have to admit, I did a little happy dance when I saw your name on the upcoming worship schedule. Good to see you working back in, and walking with the Lord through the process. 🙂

    vivien + george’s first recording/music video…

this has been TOO long in the making!
vivien being a gifted and anointed worship leader for many years at her former church, ecc, and myself leading worship for the last 16+ years at my father’s church and then at quest (though currently on a sabbatical – will be writing more about this shortly)… we’ve always dreamt and talked about recording together.
now with a baby on the way, we felt even more compelled to start (even if it’s as simple as this video).
especially as we are in the midst of “dark friday“, this song rushed back all the wonderful memories vivien + i experienced when we sung this powerful song and how Christ is truly worthy alone to be praised for the sacrifice He made.
praise God from whom all blessings flow… hope you are blessed:
