    worship setlist @ Q – 2007.12.23

    welcome/opening set:

    • * o come, all ye faithless [G] by john francis wade, music by frederick oakley/lyrical tweak by jessica hong
    • o holy night [A] by john s. dwight; music by adolphe charles adam
    • Majesty (here i am) [A] by martin smith & stuart garrard

    • silent night [Am] by joseph mohr; music by franz gruber

    offeratory/closing song:

    • joy to the world [D] by isaac watts; music by george frederick handel

and, you read the title right… * O Come, All Ye FAITHLESS…

penned by none other than our very own jessica hong! the first time i heard this, she performed/shared it during our Q cafe’s anniversary celebration. i was in shock when I first heard this classic being re-arranged. i was like:

“WHAT?!? how dare she! this is a classic!!!” :O

but then, as i got past my silly self, and stopped and started to listen to the lyrics, i was moved to tears as i realized this song/carol no longer was something i sung along to countless times growing up, but in an epiphanous moment, became a carol i sang as if it was my own story… depicting what i currently am, not what i yet want to become/am striving to be (and keep failing miserably in becoming, for some reason…)!

please read. let it soak in. sing, choir of sinners!

“o come, all ye faithless, doubtful and disheartened

come and be honest, come in all your brokenness.”

“sing, choirs of sinners, sing of your redemption!

glory to God… all glory in the highest!”

yeah, that blew me away as well when she sang at the Q party.

with all the insane musical talent at Quest…I’m thinking you all should record….so the rest of us non-talented musical ones can enjoy on a regular basis….hehe 🙂

    merry e-Christmas!

i know it’s lame that i’m posting this as a blog entry, right?
cold?  impersonal?  thoughtless?  all of the above + some more?

i was gonna do a mass text to everyone yesterday, but before i had a chance, my phone rec’d several texts from others who beat me to the punch…
and then i thought how interesting it was to get a mass text.
*and nothing against those who mass texted! I’m just jealous ‘cuz you beat me to it!  😀

we are SO connected, that we can send out mass information/communications at the touch of a few keypad-strokes! how cool is that?!?!
but may we never lose sight of reaching out and having that personal touch w/ one another.
*and after i write that, i opt for a blog entry!  haha!  🙂
    (More …)

anger as dutch couple give up korean girl, 7, they adopted as baby over ‘failure to fit in’…

wow… i’m at a loss for words.  sure i might not understand the full picture here, but at least from this article from the daily mail… pretty disheartening.
can’t imagine what this little girl is gonna go through when she understands the decision her adoptive/dutch parents made.

i think i’ll spare everyone my rant, but that just makes me livid, and more sadly, immensely discouraged.

    ‘downward’ mobility…

was the 12.09.2007 message pastor eugene shared during church service… was challenged by it.
how as humanity, we are so tempted and intoxicated by the idea of ‘upward mobility’… no matter how hard we try to shun it or to fight the very idea of it, we’re so strongly drawn back to it. feeling empowered by it at times. :/
i am guilty of this (especially w/ my cell phone addiction!)
and b/c we strive to be more Christ-like (and we all know how easy that is right? umm… yeah. right!), He was the greatest example of the exact opposite = ‘downward mobility’. trading paradise for poverty… all for me. all for you.

great listen if you have time… click here.
